It happened. I finally did a photo shoot to have images of myself for the website and other marketing. I have a photographer friend and we had a blast! So I thought, why not give a fun behind-the-scenes look into kismet & moxie?
More fun? I’m in!
So my friend, Josie, is an amazing, interesting soul-driven Wildheart. She just “gets” me. One day, I learned that she is a photographer as well. Ummm, what?! I’m basically all like, “You’re hired!” And off we went that very next week to a cool park she knew. Then the following week, we went to another location. Hint: my curly hair and my straight hair = different locations on different days. The parks were so ridiculously perfect for kismet & moxie and we enjoyed being creative with cool spots for me to sit, stand and lean ever so naturally.
I’ve never done work modeling anything so I can’t speak to those types of shoots, but I have done many product photo shoots (including food which is crazy interesting by the way!) and then this one here for my brand. Anyway, there’s a lot of stuff that goes on that ultimately leads to hope, frustration and silliness. It all runs the gamut from “yes” to “no, oh shit” to “aw what the hell, let’s try it”. In the end, you hope for some shots that work. And if you’re super lucky, you not only get some kickass shots but you also have a great time.
That was our shoot and then some. The lucky kind mixed with a great eye and fantastic skill. Josie captured some damn amazing shots for me to use in my business and we had a ton of a crazy wonderful time! She even snapped this pic when I pointed out the heart rock:
Photo shoots can certainly bring out a lot of creativity. Some works well and some, well, doesn’t work for shit. But that’s the heart of creativity really, don’t you think? Exploring, discovering, trying. Winning some, not winning some and starting again to get it just how we’d like it. It is creating, after all! A load of expression goes into creativity and Josie and I didn’t hold back.
I can’t wait to do it again for way more than just the photos. I loved working with Josie and getting a view of what she sees to capture with a camera. I’ve always enjoyed the creativity offered by photography. Plus now having all these photos for my brand is going to offer up even more ways to express the meaning and vibe behind kismet & moxie especially to those Wildhearts in us.
So here’s that behind-the-scenes snapshot of how our photo shoots went (yep, uh huh, you see what I did there)…
Let’s start with the pull-ups under the bridge because why wouldn’t we?
Next up, as to be expected, there are the random jewelry mishaps, gusts of wind, and super cool natural-looking ways to pose (or not). You go through a ton of shots to get the gems. But, like in life, it’s the not-so-perfect things you get through that make the great things even better.
Some of those “let’s try again” situations are below:
- Oops! Great shot and I LOVE the background but lost the necklace (I’ll still use the photo though!)
- Wind. It can work with you or against you!
- Way cool capture of, well ya know, a natural look of hair tugging while straddling a chair that’s sitting in the water. Damn, the jewelry looks good though! And some of the chair-in-the-water photos did work super cool actually. Heehee!
There were wardrobe shenanigans, outdoor changes, and piles of jewelry everywhere (I almost lost a sweet one-of-a-kind necklace into the cracks of that, well whatever the hole it is, between the wood slats on my right in the pictures below).
We did a bunch of winging it, had tons of how-does-this-look moments, and shared a whole lot of laughter!
As I strolled through the park I saw THE BARREL! You know, the one I just had to get on. I mean, duh, it was there looking all great against that building. It was the last spot of the day for taking pictures.
It was not stable. Like really not much at all. But as you recall, I just had to get on it and there was no pulling myself up onto it until Josie had to put down her camera to hold the barrel steady. I made it up and, per her request and just an all-around good idea, didn’t lean that way too much, well, or the other way either!
You’ll see a lot of the photos from these shoots showing up around kismet & moxie in many places soon. I’ve also created a special photo shoot sale that I’ll share with the private Wildhearts facebook group and those who signed up for my emails. Since this blog post will stay up a long while, by the time many of you read it there’s a good chance that the special pricing is over. Though there’s lots more to come! If you want to get the sales, promotions and more sneak peeks that are often not public, please sign up for receiving my emails and join our Wildhearts facebook group. We’re a fun and sassy bunch and we’d love to have you! Oh hey, when you sign up for my emails you get an instant 20% OFF coupon code, too!!
Love this!!! You look awesome!!
Thank you so much!! I really enjoyed writing the post and it’s great to have all the photos – even the “non-marketing” ones work in fun ways! You’ve seen my facebook profile pic – Josie took that, too. XOXO
Great photos! Way to go Josie. I must also add you had an awesome model.
Thanks! Josie truly is a one-of-a-kind cool ass woman with great talent! It was fun to play model. LOL!
